Explorations ....... in Fibre!

Tomorrow night Friday April 5 at 7pm our group show opens at the Terrace Art Gallery! As I get older, it is becoming more difficult to work at the loom so I have been exploring other less physical fibre arts. For the Explorations show, I stepped back in time remembering as a child the evenings spent as a family rug hooking with my Dad as the primary designer and hooker and my Mum as the materials provider. When my Dad died, my brother asked if I would like my Dad's homemade hook - a giant nail filed into a hook and set in a wood handle! Of course it has been sitting in my fibre arts toolbox for years, until a visit to the Rug Hooking Museum in Cape Breton last year inspired me to try traditional rug hooking. My Scottish heritage made the selection of a Celtic knot design in bold reds and greens an easy decision. My admiration for rug hookers who "paint" and shade their pictorial rugs  is boundless after hours spent hooking in solid colours! But I so enjoyed the process that I will continue to explore this fibre art.
